They found mean behaviours in girls typically revolved around close friendship groups with ‘dirty looks’, ignoring and excluding behaviours, and going behind other people’s backs. For boys, it was more about larger groups, more direct and in your face, and using teasing and other tactics such as exclusion from sporting games or teams.
While the tactics may differ, girls and boys both understood issues about power and social dominance, and manipulating friendships to increase social standing or acceptance.

*** NASA scientists say the 8.8 Chilean earthquake’s shortened the length of the day by making the Earth rotate faster-by about one-millionth of a second and shortened the length of a day by about 1.26 microseconds. A microsecond’s one millionth of a second. Perhaps more impressive is how much the 8.8 magnitude quake shifted Earth’s axis.
The quake should’ve moved Earth’s figure axis (the axis which Earth’s mass’ balanced) by about 3”. When you compare it to the 2004 Sumatran earthquake, it should’ve shortened the length of day by 6.8 microseconds and shifted Earth’s axis by 2.76”.
It didn’t shift the Earth’s axis as far cuz the earthquake was located nearer the equator.
*** AND***Ottawa says it’ll provide up to $2 million in urgent humanitarian assistance to earthquake-ravaged Chile. The Canadian government will continue to monitor the situation in the country to determine whether other aid’s needed.
Chile’s list of urgently needed equipment sent to the Canadian government includes a temporary field hospital with surgical facilities, electricity generators for hospitals, a pontoon bridge and satellite phones. The Department of Foreign Affairs said 520 Canadians known to be in Chile had been contacted as of Monday afternoon, while 337 others hadn’t yet been located.

*** US officials are investigating after a boy was apparently allowed to direct planes at New York’s busy JFK airport. The probe comes after an audiotape caught the boy directing several pilots preparing for take-off last month.
In one exchange, the boy’s heard saying: “JetBlue 171 contact departure.” The pilot responds: “Over to departure JetBlue 171, awesome job.” The adult is later heard saying with a laugh: “That’s what you get, guys, when the kids are out of school.”
In another exchange, the child says: “MS 4-0-3, contact departure,” and then adds: “Adios, amigo.” The pilot responds: “Adios, amigo.”
The pilots on the tape appear to be not concerned that a child’s giving them instructions. The boy was apparently with his father – a certified air traffic controller.

Kanazawa sez the smarter a man is, the less likely he is to cheat on his partner. He based his theory on the assertion that through evolutionary history, men have always been ‘mildly polygamous’.
His theory’s intelligent people are more likely to adopt what in evolutionary terms are new practices – to become ‘more evolved’. Those who can’t adapt end up cheating are likely to be more stupid.
The theory predicts more intelligent men are more likely to value sexual exclusivity than less intelligent men.
The link between fidelity and intelligence doesn’t apply to women because they’ve always been expected to be faithful to one mate – even in polygamous societies.

Most of the teams were from the top divisions, and over the previous season there were 77 heart attacks – 1 for every 589,000 spectators at these stadiums. Medical experts are calling for mandatory defibrillators to be available at sporting venues.

*** An Indian couple thought they had the perfect wedding – a 24 piece orchestra, a champagne fountain at every table, a life-sized ice sculpture of the bride and groom, and 3x 5 ton circus elephants. The day was going well until a male elephant noticed one of the females was in heat. He charged a lawn full of wedding guests before flipping over about 20 cars in a nearby parking lot. It was finally brought under control by a tranquilizer around 6 hours later, after ramming a police truck and causing over $300,000 of damage in total. Wildlife Trust of India said that the elephant was in “mast”, or rutting stage, which happens once a year.
*** An Oregon store owner’s SOL of $12,000 for a shipment of 30 airsoft rifles seized by agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Ben Martin, owner of Airsoft Outlet Northwest in Cornelius, said the agents told him the guns were seized because inspectors determined the internal components could quickly be replaced with a mechanism allowing for the firing of live machine gun rounds. Martin said the guns, from a manufacturer in Taiwan, are designed to shoot plastic BBs and aren’t sturdy enough to handle real bullets.
*** A suspect in a New York ATM card reading case swallowed evidence- a flash drive — while in view of agents. Florin Necula ingested the Kingston flash drive while being transported to a Secret Service office following his Jan. 21 arrest, then allowed doctors at New York Downtown Hospital to remove the drive after he was unable to pass it in the 4 days following his arrest. It was unclear whether the data storage device was damaged by the trip through Necula’s system.
*** A 26 year old Chinese man caused part of a city to be without power for 4 hours – when he performed a high wire act on power cables. Xiang Jun of Dongguan, Guangdong province, danced and walked on the high voltage cables for 4 hours before finally jumping down to a giant air cushion. Friends said he had been drinking and had been angry about recently losing his job. Firefighters arrived within 5 minutes of him climbing a mast and getting on to the cables – but couldn’t talk him down. Instead they ordered power to be cut off – so he wouldn’t electrocute himself – and arranged for the air cushion to be brought in.
*** 2 vials said to contain the spirits of ghosts exorcised from a house in New Zealand have been put up for sale onTradeMe, New Zealand’s equivalent of eBay. ‘Two Captured Ghosts’s reached the top price of nearly $325 (£200.) The seller claims the spirits were captured by an exorcist from a spiritual church at a property in Christchurch. One’s believed to be the ghost of a man called Les Graham who died in the house in the 1920s. The auction said the “holy water” in the vials dulled the spirit’s energy and put them to sleep. To revive the spirit, the buyer has to pour the contents into a dish and let it “evaporate into your house”.
*** Prison bosses are about to open the world’s most luxurious jail with flatscreen TVs, its own recording studio – and even Banksy style murals. The $264 million (£160 million) prison, near Oslo, Norway, gives 252 inmates a single en suite cell with its own bathroom and windows without bars. Inside the maximum security prison, authorities have spent more than $1.65 million (£1 million) on modern art, and even provided prisoners with a climbing wall.
*** Medwyn Williams, a 67 year old award-winning Anglesey vegetable gardener’s planning to sail to the Isle of Man in a giant pumpkin. Williams of Llanfairpwll’s growing a 725kg gourd to raise money for the Help for Heroes campaign. The walls of his pumpkin vessel with be 15cm thick and will be fitted with a seat and outboard motor. Williams, whose won the President’s Award for his vegetables at the Chelsea Flower Show, London, will set off from his home on Anglesey.
*** An 83-year-old West Midlands man thought he had arthritis only to discover a German bullet had been lodged in his hip for the last 66 years. War veteran Fred Gough was told by doctors he’d been carrying the memento since the Second World War. Gough, from Darlaston, had been referred to hospital for an x-ray after suffering from an ache in his right leg. He has still got the bullet lodged inside him and it’ll remain there for as long as it causes him no discomfort.
*** A theology student’s been jailed in Croatia after he caused $49 million (£30m) damage after he set fire to a thorn bush that kept pricking him. Jure Erceg was jailed for 15 months after a court in Erceg heard he started the blaze on Velebit mountain in 2007 to seek revenge on the bush. Erceg told the court that he lost his temper with the bush after it repeatedly pricked on his way to and from Zadar Faculty of Theology. Erceg and his father tried to call firemen by mobile-phone, but it had no signal. He devastated nearly 500 acres of protected land in Paklenica national park, killing countless wild animals and birds.
*** A 50 year old Chinese man claims to have survived for 2 years eating nothing but leaves and grass. Li Sanju of Niuwei village, Guangdong province sez he’s perfectly happy with his unusual diet. At first, he tried eating grass in a field like cattle – but it tasted bitter and made him ill. He initially ate a small portion of rice with his grass and leaves but soon gave up even that.
*** Dog lovers will be forced to pass a test before they can own any pooch under a planned clampdown on dangerous animals. They’ll face a competency exam to prove they can control their animals, including harmless breeds like Yorkshire terriers. Microchips must also be inserted under the dogs’ skin, while owners will have to buy 3rd-party insurance in case their pet attacks a human or another animal. Other proposals include Asbos for owners of violent dogs. There were 703 convictions for out-of-control dogs in 2007.
*** A US man who claimed his car had been stolen after he crashed it into a snow drift was arrested after police followed his footsteps back to the bar where he’d been drinking. The 42-year-old, of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, now faces up to 3 years in jail and a $10,000 fine if he’s convicted with his 5th drink driving charge.
*** A 29 year old former member of Britain’s Royal Marines said an airport worker told him to cover his “offensive” commando dagger tattoo. Paul Fairclough, a former medic who served in Iraq and Kosovo, said a security worker at London’s Heathrow Airport approached him after he removed his jacket at a checkpoint and said he’d have to cover the 12” dagger tattoo on his arm.
He tried explaining the tat was his old regiment’s insignia,” but she said they had a policy that tattoos of offensive weapons must not be on show.” Fairclough complained to an airport supervisor who told him the military tattoo was allowed and only gang tattoos were required to be covered. He continued on his flight to Manchester, England. A British Airports Authority spokesman later apologized for the incident.

*** NEW UPDATE*** Lil Wayne will now be sentenced in a New York court Monday for his weapons possession case, after his sentencing was postponed again Tuesday after a fire broke out in the Manhattan courthouse where he was to appear. Lil Wayne was scheduled to be officially sentenced last month, but a judge said he could wait until Tuesday so he could undergo necessary dental surgery.
The rapper pleaded guilty to felony weapons possession last year after police found a loaded semi-automatic gun in his tour bus. As part of his plea agreement, he’s expected to begin a one-year jail sentence immediately after being sentenced.
*** Lil’ Wayne made a surprise appearance at a Jay-Z concert in New York Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden during support act and Young Money labelmate Young Jeezy’s opening slot– just hours after his prison sentencing was delayed for the 2nd time. *** Word out is Madonna’s about to announce an Australian tour for ‘The Celebration Tour’ for July…the 1st time Madonna’s been to Australian since ‘93 and her 2nd Australian tour. 10 shows are planned- 3 for Sydney and Melbourne, 2 for Brisbane and 1 each for Adelaide and Perth. The ticket price will be the highest price ever for a pop concert ticket in Australia with the cheap seats expected to go for $249, then $499, Gold at $999 and then an Ultimate ticket at $2000.
For $1000 more, Ultimate ticket holders can also upgrade to the Penultimate ticket for $3000 which’ll include a meet and greet, photo op and personally signed program from the tour. The Melbourne show at Rod Laver Arena will be filmed for a live DVD.

*** Lady Gaga went through 4 costume changes when she appeared on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross. She appeared in a bright white, spiky dress which gave her the appearance of a snowflake, and a PVC-studded corset with knee-high boots with feathered shoulders during her performances of Telephone and Brown Eyes.
In the green room, she wore an elaborate PVC hat with a veil and telephone on top. She then changed again for the interview with Ross into high perspex heels, a shiny trouser suit with black bra, and gloves.

*** Rihanna’s being sued for $26,000 (£17,300) in unpaid wages by her former personal trainer Cindy Percival. In the court papers, Percival claims she charged the star $1,500-a-day (£937-a-day) for her services, and is still owed a total of $26,144 for her work with Rihanna last year… including $2,644 (£1,762) for travel expenses.
*** A woman claiming to be the wife of Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs’ out on bail after being busted near his home on Long Island, New York. Cemelia Green of Florida, pleaded not guilty to criminal mischief and trespassing after wandering into a property she mistook for Diddy’s house. Green, who was seen twice at the house but fled the 1st time’s free on $5,000 (£3,326) bail.
Green was spotted at the house in February and was approached by a maintenance worker. She claimed to be married to Diddy, then fled after police were called. Later that month, she asked local police for directions to his house, but was refused.

*** Former Spice Girl Melanie Brown’s being sued for damages by a real estate agent who alleges he suffered serious injuries when one of her bodyguards mistook him for a paparazzo and tried to seize his camera.
Amado Aguirre claims he was sitting in his car outside the singer’s LA home taking pictures of houses in the street to help appraise the value of a neighbouring property. Brown and her husband Stephan Belafonte were walking their dog outside when they noticed Aguirre and told their bodyguard who then allegedly reached into the car and tried to grab his camera. He claims to have suffered serious bodily injury in the resulting scuffle.
***Wyclef Jean’s former manager Lisa Ellis’ denied reports she was fired by him after posing nude for a photoshoot. Ellis, who represented the rapper until last month stripped for the pic in 2008 by Haitian photographer Marc Baptiste. Jean parted ways with Ellis after his wife, Marie Claudinette, found a copy of the photo in his possession and demanded he fire her but Ellis claims the rumours are completely false, saying she quit her job.

*** Paul McCartney hits the mainstage of the Isle of Wight Festival, Sunday, June 13 to close the fest which runs from the 11th to the 13th. Paul’s all new ‘Up And Coming’ tour starts in the US in March and comes to the UK and Ireland in June. *** The Jackson family’s released a statement saying the kids are happy, healthy and wonderful after L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services investigated a stun gun incident at their home in Encino. Jermaine’s 13-year-old son Jaafar ordered a gun online and it was delivered to the Jackson family home 2 weeks ago.
The weapon, which’s said to be a “taser”, triggered an investigation by child services officials. Jaafar opened the package alone in his bathroom and “tested it on a piece of paper”, and when Katherine and security heard the sound coming from the 2nd floor they confiscated it.

*** NEW UPDATE*** Naomi Campbell won’t face criminal charges after being accused of punching her limo driver Tuesday in New York after the driver decided not to pursue the matter.
*** A chauffeur hired to drive supermodel Naomi Campbell around New York Tuesday told police she hit him so hard in the back of the head, he hit the steering wheel and bruised his face. The driver got out of the car and reported the incident to a traffic enforcement agent, but by the time they got back to the car, Campbell was gone.
Campbell became angry because she suspected the driver had covered up for the misdeeds of her boyfriend, Vlad Doronin, a year ago when he was Doronin’s driver. NYPD now talking to the Manhattan DA’s office about how to proceed in the case. Campbell’s pleaded guilty to assaulting an assistant and maid in the past.
*** AND*** Naomi Campbell’s wanted for questioning by police after allegedly assaulting a New York City limo driver on Tuesday afternoon. The supermodel’s accused of punching her chauffeur in the back of the head, leaving him with “bumps and bruises” after a confrontation in midtown Manhattan. She reportedly then fled the car, so the 27-year-old driver called cops.
*** Nicolas Chartier, one of 4 producers of “The Hurt Locker” won’t be admitted to the Oscars in LA Sunday night after e-mailing friends and industry professionals urging them to get in touch with academy members and get them to vote for his movie, instead of what he called that “$500M film” - an apparent reference to James Cameron’s Oscar-nominated blockbuster, “Avatar.”
Academy rules don’t allow “casting a negative or derogatory light on a competing film” so the executive committee of the academy’s producers’ branch met Monday and voted to bar Chartier from the awards presentation but decided against taking away his nomination.
