I’m a little pissed.
I heard about it and I check it out for myself and it looks to be true.
In today’s killer show prep, we have a story about Asian groups being angry with country singer Toby Keith for “allegedly” pulling his eye back in a racial gesture during the after party of the Nobel Peace Prize Awards in Oslo, Norway last week.
Keith was on stage with host Will Smith and Wyclef Jean for an impromptu rap performance of Rapper’s Delight by Sugarhill Gang when he made the gesture when Smith rapped the word “yellow.”
He’s the 2nd country singer to make a total ass of himself following Miley Cyrus’ alleged same gesture of “slanting” her eyes.
What is this…grade school ?
I’m 3rd generation Japanese-Canadian and damn proud of it, I might add (check out the harada-data-productions logo and look for the Japanese flag in the letters) and I’m quite offended by what he did.
It was quick, very short…may look to be somewhat innocent at first but the fact it appeared he slanted his left eye just blows me away.
The thing that pisses me off the most is Keith ‘s camp’s dismissed the criticism, telling TMZ.com, “Nobody at the party thought Toby was out of line.”
He WAS out of line !
That’s so not responsible and so arrogant to dismiss and justify something that was unexpected and totally unnecessary…have Keith and Cyrus never seen Asians in their part of the world ?
Maybe he needs to start touring more… in Japan…China…Thailand…Viet Nam… let’s see if he has the balls to do it there !
