I find this story in today’s killer show prep very interesting…and kinda cool. Caster Semenya’s a South African runner and new world 800 metre champion’s being tested to find out if she’s a he. Her recent win’s drawn the attention of the International Assosication of Athletics Federation to verify her sex status by checking out her luggage and plumbing.

Caster has to undergo probing, prodding and testing by a group of doctors, including an endocrinologist, a gynecologist, an internal medicine expert, an expert on gender and a psychologist.

In their tests (or testes,) here’s what they do…

*They’ll look at her external genitalia and her hormone levels and her chromosomal make-up.

*They’ll check for congenital adrenal hyperplasia-a condition in which the body produces more androgen, a type of male hormone

*If a girl has it, she’ll usually have normal internal female reproductive organs, but may not have periods and may have a male appearance.

So in the end, you can have female parts but still look like a guy…so I guess the next time someone tells you to “go screw yourself,” consider it done !
